Jeera Aloo

Ingredients

  • 2 cup boiled potato chopped
  • 2 tsp mustard oil you can use vegetable oil as well
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp black mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/2 tsp hing / asafetida powder
  • 2 no green chillies slit
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 tsp lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

To make powder

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp whole coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder

Instructions

  • Chop the boiled potatoes into small cubes and set aside.
  • Roast all the spices and powder in a mortar and pestle
  • In a pan heat the oil. if using mustard oil let it get really hot! Add the cumin and mustard seeds.
  • Add the ginger and green chillies followed by the asafetida and turmeric. Stir for 2 minutes on medium heat.
  • Add spice mix and salt and stir well on medium heat for 2 minutes and add the water. Let it cook for 2- 3 minutes.
  • Next add the potatoes and stir well. Check for salt and let it cook on medium for 4 -5 minutes. Check for salt and add if necessary.
  • Turn off the heat. Add chopped cilantro and lime juice. Serve hot !
